Farewell Ephemeral Lily, welcome Elma Lily

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

More comings and goings amongst the Lilies.

It is with great sadness that we announce Ephemeral Lily’s departure.  Ephemeral played trombone and sang the final, triumphant verse (actually I guess it was a bridge) on our version of “Another Minute Without You.”  It was also his bass clarinet that Ariel Lily borrowed for “In The Diamond Mine,” so I suppose we’ll have to find another one somewhere.  Ephemeral leaves us to work on some more of his own projects and we wish him the best of luck.

However, it is with tremendous pleasure that we officially announce the arrival of Elma Lily!  Elma joins us on flute, vocals, and that…that silver thing with the metal beads that you turn and it makes that scratchy noise.  You know, that thing.  She also has very enthusiastically taken up tap dancing and rollerskating duties and I think can probably be coaxed into clogging–and that was also her wrestling/catfighting with Alissa and Ariel to “Let’s Go Into The Woods And Be In Love.”  Clearly a Renaissance woman, and we’re very excited that she’s with us.  Hi Elma!

NO I DO NOT HAVE A PHOTO RIGHT NOW.  SORRRY.

Cop Car on Demolisten–and EP is being mastered, incredibly

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

The first Cobra Lilies EP inches its way towards completion–we finished the last mix on Wednesday and today we brought the tracks to Pete Lyman at Infrasonic for mastering to vinyl.  Originally we thought it would be on a 7″ record but the sides are running long so now it looks like it might be a 45 rpm 1-sided 12″.  SWEET.

Also: Cobra Lilies got what I believe is our first radio play tonight.  Fred and Octavius played the final mix of “Cop Car” on Demolisten (on the magnificent KXLU) after Elaine handed over a promo copy–you can hear it here, right after Octavius’s Depeche Mode cover.  Plus you can watch Moment Trigger live.  ELECTRIC SLINKY.

Hoedown video courtesy of Elaine Layabout

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Some video from Saturday’s show at the Hoedown has surfaced, courtesy of the lovely Ms. Elaine Layabout.  I am not exactly sure what you’d call the handstandy-upside-down-semi-splits move at the end of the Hanson cover.  This is the first time I’ve actually seen the routine–I knew I couldn’t watch it during the show itself because I’d lose it.

Thanks Elaine!  We love you!

If anyone has any more video or photos from the show, please pass them on and we’ll put it on up.  Thanks!

Adieu Agnes

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Thanks to all who came out to the Hoedown on Saturday, and many thanks to Elaine Layabout for hosting us!  We swept up hay until 3AM and it was well worth every moment.

I do have some sad news to pass along, though, which is that Agnes, our beloved ukulele/guitar player and lead vocalist for “Time Travel Girl,” has decided to move on to other projects, meaning that Saturday was his last show.  Agnes has been with us for about a year, starting right about the time we started recording our debut EP.  We will miss him dearly and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors, whatever they may be.

Speaking of our EP–despite that we started recording it last July, it still isn’t quite finished (which may be a record for a 4-song EP), but we are in the very final throes of mixing.  I will give more details later, but I envision a release show sometime in July and am very excited about this!  More details will be forthcoming as soon as I know what they are.

Agnes Lily (far right) is all right, oh boy! Watch him skating, roller skating.
